Capetown
Located at the southern tip of Africa, Cape Town is South Africa's most European city, stunningly framed between mountains and sea. Cape Town has a lot going for it: it's multi-racial, relaxed and trendy, and it looks good in any season. The attraction is readily apparent, for apart from its stunning natural features, the city is blessed with a laid back ambience that meets with the approval of bohemians and holidaymakers alike. Not far from the compact city centre, visitors can choose from a magnificent portfolio of world-class attractions - Table Mountain, Camps Bay beach, the Winelands, Robben Island and Cape Point nature reserve.
The emphasis on the good life however, has also ensured that Cape Town is not quite the big city it wants to be. There are few great public facilities, no symphony orchestra, and for the most part only a desultory collection of nightclubs. Yet in this perceived lack lies Cape Town's charm. The "city" is best understood as a series of villages unfolding around Table Mountain as it reaches away from the low-key centre. As a result, one seldom feels the constriction normally associated with being in a major urban centre, with each area possessing its own character and charms.

Life for Capetonians is centred on the outdoors, and visitors too find that the beach, mountain and hiking trails are the highlights of their stay. The somewhat erratic weather may rain on the Capetonians' parade on occasion but the city remains a year-round destination, although the most popular time to visit is still in the summer months between November and March.
